Position Summary

The Cheektowaga Central School District is seeking a dedicated High School Special Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in grades 9–12. The teacher will develop and implement programs aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and support access to the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with New York State and federal regulations.

  • Provide direct instruction in special class, resource room, and/or integrated co-teaching (ICT) settings.

  • Adapt and modify curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies to support academic, social, and behavioral growth.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff.

  • Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and contribute to student evaluations and program recommendations.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, service logs, and compliance records.

  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and support positive behavioral strategies.

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.

  • Support students in developing transition plans, including post-secondary goals related to college, career, and independent living.

  • Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.


Qualifications

Required Certification:

  • Valid New York State certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 7–12) or appropriate Special Education certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dual certification in a content area (e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies).

  • Experience in high school special education settings.

  • Knowledge of graduation requirements, Regents exams, and transition planning.

  • Familiarity with co-teaching models and differentiated instruction.

Position Title: English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher

Employment Status: Full-time, 10-month position

Position Summary

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher provides instruction and support to students whose primary language is not English. The teacher develops and delivers language instruction designed to improve students’ English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while supporting their academic success in all content areas. The ESL Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that English Language Learners (ELLs) receive appropriate instructional support and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based ESL instruction aligned with district curriculum and New York State learning standards.

  • Provide direct English language instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs) through push-in, pull-out, or stand-alone ESL classes as assigned.

  • Develop lesson plans that support English language development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development within content-area instruction.

  • Assess student English language proficiency and monitor student progress.

  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, language proficiency levels, and required documentation.

  • Assist in the administration and interpretation of state-mandated English language proficiency assessments.

The High School Math Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging mathematics instruction that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning. The teacher supports the academic development of students by implementing district curriculum, assessing student progress, and creating a classroom environment that fosters learning and achievement.

  • Plan and deliver standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with district curriculum and state learning standards.

  • Teach assigned courses which may include Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, or other mathematics courses as assigned.

  • Develop lesson plans that promote conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and real-world application of mathematical principles.

  • Assess student learning through formative and sumative assessments and use data to guide instruction.

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
