Position Summary

The Cheektowaga Central School District is seeking a qualified Long-Term Substitute Speech-Language Pathologist to provide speech and language services to students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The Speech-Language Pathologist will assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, and related disorders that impact students’ educational performance. The position requires collaboration with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language therapy services to students as mandated on their IEPs.

  • Conduct speech-language screenings and evaluations to determine eligibility for services.

  • Develop measurable goals and objectives aligned with students’ IEPs.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of therapy sessions, progress monitoring, and service logs.

  • Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and provide professional recommendations.

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, psychologists, and other related service providers to support students’ communication needs.

  • Provide consultation and strategies to classroom staff to support communication development within the instructional setting.

  • Prepare written reports and maintain compliance with district, state, and federal special education regulations.

  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies to support communication skills.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with applicable laws and district policy.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or building administration.

Qualifications

  • Required Certification:

    • Valid New York State certification as a Speech and Language Disabilities (Speech-Language Pathologist) teacher.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with school-age children in a public school setting.

    • Knowledge of IEP development, CSE processes, and special education regulations.

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to design and implement individualized speech and language therapy programs.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed records.

  • Knowledge of assistive technology and communication supports is desirable.

Terms of Employment

  • This is a long-term substitute position with compensation in accordance with district policies and applicable agreements. No benefits provided.  

  • Assignment duration is based on district needs.
