The English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher provides instruction and support to students whose primary language is not English. The teacher develops and delivers language instruction designed to improve students’ English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while supporting their academic success in all content areas. The ESL Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that English Language Learners (ELLs) receive appropriate instructional support and services.

Plan and deliver standards-based ESL instruction aligned with district curriculum and New York State learning standards.

Provide direct English language instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs) through push-in, pull-out, or stand-alone ESL classes as assigned.

Develop lesson plans that support English language development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development within content-area instruction.

Assess student English language proficiency and monitor student progress.

Maintain accurate records of student performance, language proficiency levels, and required documentation.

Assist in the administration and interpretation of state-mandated English language proficiency assessments.

Participate in the development and review of student support plans for English Language Learners.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and program services.

Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and support staff to support the academic success and integration of ELL students.

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.

Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and during school activities as assigned.

Support and implement school and district policies and procedures.
