Position Title: School Psychologist
Location: Cheektowaga Central School District
Reports To: Director of Special Education and/or Building Principal
Employment Status: Full-time, 10-month position

Position Summary

The School Psychologist supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students by providing psychological services within the school setting. The School Psychologist conducts evaluations, participates in multidisciplinary teams, and collaborates with staff and families to support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations of students referred for special education services.

  • Interpret assessment data and prepare written psychological reports in accordance with federal and state regulations.

  • Participate as a member of the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) as assigned.

  • Assist in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

  • Provide consultation to teachers, administrators, and parents regarding student learning, behavior, and mental health needs.

  • Develop and recommend interventions and strategies to support student success in the classroom.

  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and assist in the development of behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

  • Provide individual or group counseling services to students as appropriate.

  • Assist in crisis intervention and support school safety and threat assessment efforts.

  • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and support staff to implement student support plans.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with district policy and applicable laws.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and district initiatives.

  • Support and implement school and district policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in School Psychology.

  • Valid New York State certification as a School Psychologist.

  • Knowledge of psychological assessment tools, educational law, and special education processes.

  • Strong consultation, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout school buildings and classrooms.

  • Ability to conduct evaluations and counseling sessions in a variety of school settings.

Work Environment

  • School-based setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or District Administration.
